No religion shows great tolerance for, or understanding of, homosexuality. The Bible tells that a city of homosexuals was destroyed by Yahweh.
There are bishops who publicly proclaim homosexuality to be a deviation or a disease. Mostly, worshippers are asked to pray for rehabilitation of these lost sheep.
What do the Islamic scholars say?
The Shariah states in unmistakable terms that homosexuals ought to be killed. The condition for this is that there be witnesses to the homosexual act or that the individual(s) involved confess to the act.
We quote here a few passages from the “Reliance of the Traveller”, a Shariah manual of the Shafi’i School. The book carries the stamp of approval from the Al-Azhar University in Cairo. This university is the foremost of Islamic universities.
On pp. 610 and 611 we read the following:
§o12.0 The penalty for adultery and sodomy
§o12.1 The legal punishment is mandatorily imposed on all who commit adultery or sodomy when they:
(a) have reached the age of puberty
(b) are of a sane mind
(b) are of a sane mind
(c) and have voluntarily engaged in the deed

In case the trespasser is not someone in a position to remain chaste, the punishment shall consist of one hundred lashes and exile for one year at a distance of at least 81 km.
On p. 638 we read the following:
§o24.9 In case the testimony concerns adultery or sodomy, required will be 4 male witnesses (who declare that they have seen the trespasser insert his penis into the woman’s vagina).
On pp. 664 and 665 we read the following:
§p17.0 Sodomy and Lesbian persuasion
§p17.1 In more than one place in the Holy Koran, Allah tells the tale of the people of Lot, and how he destroyed them because of their perverted practices. There is agreement amongst both Muslims and the followers of other religions that the practice of sodomy is an abomination. It is even more abominable than adultery.
§p17.2 Allah, He who is Most High, says :
“"Of all the creatures in the world, will ye approach males,
"And leave those whom Allah has created for you to be your mates? Nay, ye are a people transgressing [all limits]!"
26.165-166”
§p17.3 The Prophet (may Allah’s blessings and Peace be upon Him) has said:
(1) “Kill the sodomites and those who consent to submit.”
(2) “May Allah damn to perdition those who do what Lot’s people did”
(3) “Lesbian practice by women is adultery amongst them.”
(3) “Lesbian practice by women is adultery amongst them.”
As with the death penalty for adultery, the death penalty for sodomy is stated not in the Koran verses but rather in Hadith as collected by Abu Dawood 38.4447:
Abdullah ibn Abbas has handed down the revelation: The Prophet (Peace be upon him) said: If you find some who are doing as the people of Lot did, kill the perpetrators of the deed and also those that submitted to it.
Here we clearly have reached the limit of religion freedom. While Catholic bishops in their proclamations about homosexuality are urging people to be discriminate in their reactions, Islam rather calls for the killing of these individuals. In principle, one might expect that the representatives of the Islamic communities in Belgium would acknowledge the problem with the Islamic death penalty and, hence, denounce it unambiguously and unequivocally.
