Jihad is derived from the word “jahada” which means “striving”, a wide-ranging expression with all kinds of meanings.
Both in the Koran and in the Hadith, the word “jihad” in 99% of the cases is presented as a physical battle to defend Islam or spread the faith. In the islamic world, when someone mentions Jihad, he surely means ‘war”!
In the West, Muslims can obviously not say this out loud and hence have invented and worked out the concept of the spiritual Jihad. Grounds for this can be found in Islamic base sources, but these grounds are very weak indeed.
That the Koran guarantees freedom of religion is of course pure fantasy. In that case, Muslims would reject the example of their Prophet Mohammed who himself had by the end of his life all non-Muslims deported out of his region, if they had not already been killed or converted to the Islam faith.
Islam states that every non-Muslim is Hell-bound.
3.85. If anyone desires a religion other than Islam [submission to Allah], never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter He will be in the ranks of those who have lost [All spiritual good].
Jews and Christians are tolerated provided they submit to the Muslims (9.29). All others must be slain (9.5).
Muslims that are apostates from Islam must be killed. Some Muslims even go as far as to claim that this also represents a form of freedom since you are free to choose to remain a Muslim or to become an apostate and die.
