The military successes of Mohammed, but also those of his successors, were based on 2 pillars. To the “warriors on the path of Allah” a situation was foretold whereby they would always conquer, whether they fell in battle or survived the conflict. In many cases, they fought to the death.

These spoils also included slaves, both male and female. Female slaves could be ‘used’ at the whim of the conqueror. Those who died went as martyrs straight up to paradise where they could partake of the heavenly delights.
