Muhammad started his prophetic “career” in his home town Mecca. After he had caused an enormous social unrest there, he was expelled and moved to Medina where he became a political and military leader. His main military target was Mecca with whom he was fighting on and off for eight years. One day he moved to Mecca with an impressive force and the Meccans decided not to fight.
Ibn Ishaq describes on pages 550 and 551 of his biography of Muhammad that on invading Mecca, he ordered his men not to kill anybody who did not resist the invasion, ... except for the people on a “high-value target list”. Those people had to be hunted down and killed. Among them were two singing girls Farhana and her friend. Their crime: singing satirical songs about Muhammed.

In the 21st century islamic law still provides the death penalty for insulting or mocking Muhammad and for leaving Islam. It is not surprising that people who draw or distribute cartoons about Muhammad and by extension about Islam are hunted down and threatened with assassination. The devout muslims who do this only follow the example of Muhammad himself. Muslims spokesmen are quick to denounce such practices but they know full well that they are lying. But Muslims are allowed to lie and deceive (uttering disbelief) about Islam to protect themselves according to verse 16.106:
16.106 Any one who, after accepting faith in Allah, utters Unbelief,- except under compulsion, his heart remaining firm in Faith - but such as open their breast to Unbelief, on them is Wrath from Allah, and theirs will be a dreadful Penalty.
The funny thing is that those so-called moderate muslims who lie about islamic law to “protect Islam” are then denounced by extremists to be hypocrites.
Murdering critics and apostates proved to be a very effective way to spread Islam, the religion of peace. When Muhammad died, most people in the area had already converted to Islam. He ordered the remaining Christians and Jews to be deported.
Did Muhammad have the murder of those people for insulting him or for leaving Islam in mind when he said: “I have been made victorious by terror”?
